On occasional Sunday afternoons this year, Lower School students and their families are invited to participate in the Global Perspectives Passport Series, sponsored by the Center for Peace Equity and Justice. The aim of the program is to expand cross-cultural understanding through family-friendly activities, speakers and authors. As part of the series, students add stamps to their Global Perspectives Passport.

In September, families met Meera Sriram, author of Dumpling Day, a celebration of one of the world’s most universal foods. The book introduces families from many countries including Nigeria, Syria, China, Russia and Mexico, as they cook dumplings according to their own traditions. Families heard from Meera who shared her personal story and why she likes to write about people, places, and experiences that are less visible in children’s books. The next stop for Lower School travellers will be Mexico on December 5 from 4:30 to 5:30, when families will meet DACA Dreamer, Areli Morales, who will share her book, Areli Is A Dreamer. If you’d like to join your Lower School grandchild on this trip, get in touch.
