Artist and sculptor Helen Salzberg PoA ’77 celebrated her 100th birthday in March surrounded by her children and grandchild. Although it’s been 46 years since her daughter Susan Salzberg ‘77 graduated from Friends Seminary as a ‘Lifer’, Helen has clear memories of why she chose the School for her daughter. She reflects, “I love what Friends stands for. Students learn values and the importance of treating others as you would like to be treated. It’s a place where everyone has a fair chance.”

A born and raised New Yorker with an MBA from NYU and a career in personnel management, Helen started painting when her children were very young. She studied at The Arts Student League and worked with a number of private teachers over the years. Her work is held in the permanent collections of Fordham University, Central Synagogue and the Union of American Hebrew Organizations. For several years Helen taught art at Henderson University School, a public elementary and middle school on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. Although her mobility is more limited these days, she paints every day. “I am always experimenting and believe that I am producing some of my best work."
