The Matter of Helping

As part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance on Sunday, September 9, Grade 9 students and their families participated in Freshmen Lead in National Giving ( F.L.I.N.G.). The School partnered with Earth Matter to promote healthy soil through composting organic waste. Families worked in lavender and maize fields and made signs to encourage composting and sustainable actions. Kara Kutner, the Director of the Center for Peace, Equity and Justice, comments, “Over the last 12 years F.L.I.N.G. has provided an opportunity for students and parents to get to know each other. Despite the stormy skies, it was wonderful to work together!” The National Day of Service and Remembrance honors those who lost their lives on 9/11, first responders and others through acts of volunteerism.
